Courtyard Garden
Description: The plot was a small ‘L’ shaped garden to a Victorian terraced house, which was in shade for most of the day due to neighbouring mature trees. There was a large level change from the house to the garden, which was accessed from the living room, and a shed used for storage, which was beginning to over flow.

Brief: To build a practical courtyard garden for a young couple with two young boys, which requires little or no maintenance, and can be used all year round for playing and entertaining, including hidden storage.

Solution: Due to the size, aspect and neighbouring trees, we decided to use decking throughout this small space, making it a practical play/entertaining area. To add interest a raised area was made with scope for ornamental plants and inbuilt lighting to light the main area. Seating with in built storage was used to replace the necessity of having a shed, and therefore offering a seamless uncluttered finish.
